Name

Lawn aeration is the process of creating small holes in the soil to allow air, water, and nutrients to penetrate the grass roots. This helps the roots grow deeply and produce a stronger, more vigorous lawn.

By aerating your lawn, you open many micro channels for nutrients and air to dive deeper to the core of your lawn where the roots are.

The best time to aerate your lawn is during the growing season when the grass can heal and fill in any open areas after soil plugs are removed. For cool-season grass, this is typically in the early spring or fall. For warm-season grass, late spring or early summer is best.

Aeration can be done manually with a garden fork, or with a mechanical aerator for larger lawns. After aeration, it’s a good idea to apply fertilizer and water your lawn to encourage recovery and growth.

Lawn Aeration and Lawn Care by LandSharx

Improved Air Exchange

Lawn Aeration and Lawn Care by LandSharx

Aeration allows air to reach the root zone, which is essential for the health and growth of your lawn. It improves the exchange of oxygen between the soil and the atmosphere.

Enhanced Soil Water Uptake

Lawn Aeration and Lawn Care by LandSharx

Aerating your lawn improves water uptake by the soil. This means less water runoff and puddling. Your lawn can make better use of water and you can save on your water bill.

 Reduced Soil Compaction

Compacted soil can prevent the proper circulation of air, water, and nutrients. Aeration helps alleviate soil compaction, allowing your lawn to breathe and grow.

 Improved Fertilizer Uptake and Use

Lawn Aeration and Lawn Care by LandSharx

Aerated lawns make better use of the fertilizer. The fertilizer can reach the roots where it’s needed, rather than sitting on the surface.

Enhanced Thatch Breakdown

Lawn Aeration and Lawn Care by LandSharx

Aeration helps breakdown the thatch – a layer of dead grass and debris that can build up on your lawn. Thatch can prevent water and nutrients from reaching the soil.

Improved Resilience

Aerated lawns are better equipped to withstand the stresses of heat and drought. By allowing water and nutrients to reach the roots more effectively, aeration helps your lawn stay green and healthy even in harsh conditions.
